First of all, i would like to congratulate joyce for clinching the 2nd prize in Hall 5's Cantabile (do you have any idea what this word means?). Anyway, it's a singing competition organized by the Hall 5 JCRC. To joyce, we're very proud of you! That was the bomb dawg! (quoting Randy from American Idol)
I was planning to write this whole entry about something. Then I read Michael's blog. Basically, he wrote everything I was trying to write (The entry is titled "a little respect"). So I would just add some things to what he wrote. I understand that most of us are busy and/or tired. But this kind of thing only happens once. Yeah, it's not big. But at least we should have shown some support. I thought "that's what friends are for".
Earlier, Michael made this small "collection video" of NTU Filipinos' pics with "That's What Friends Are For" (sung by us) as the musical background. When I first saw it, I was on the verge of crying (seriously). There are only a few of us here in NTU (about 13 undergraduate and 5 graduate students), and I thought we had this special bond. But well, it's lost now. Maybe, there wasn't even one in the first place. We are just individuals with the same nationality who had no choice but to join this group. Some of us are even forming their own special bonds (you know, the more-than-friendship bond but not-there-yet bond, if you know what I mean), and I think it has affected us in some way. But I'm not against those kind of bonds. It's their choice, and I have no right to intervene. But at least, we should have re-created or kept this special bond that we had. Our existence here in NTU is dying (3 of us will be leaving NTU soon), and there's only a slim chance that new Filipino students would be coming next semester (they usually go to NUS and SMU). We had this chance of recreating this bond last night, but well... we failed.
OK. I think this is enough. I would like to apologize to joyce for what I just wrote. I'm not even sure if she shares the same sentiments as mine. She may be cool with the whole few-people-coming-to-watch thing. And yet I have turned this thing into such a big issue. Well, I just want to air out these sentiments. I was even thinking of these things before joyce's performance, but I just saw now as the right time (i think) to get them off my chest. So there.
Again, congratulations joyce!
Hope to see you in Singapore Idol 2! ;)
